When visions become reality: After years of pioneering work, the continuous year-round connection between Zermatt and the Italian winter sports resort of Cervinia was opened. Since July 1, 2023, the Matterhorn Glacier Ride II has enabled the highest crossing of the Alps by cableway.

Surrounded by the breathtaking mountain panorama of the Alps, the new route offers thrills, luxury, and unbeatable comfort. An experience in a class of its own – soaring over the incredible mountain landscape of Italy and Switzerland with a view of the unmistakable Matterhorn. Alpine Crossing offers a whole new dimension when it comes to cableway travel and is the highest crossing over the Alps by cableway between 2 countries.

Situated at an altitude of 3458 m, the 2 Swiss companies Zermatters and Slalom Sport operate the SnowXperience Plateau Rosa with snow tubing for thrill-seekers and a beginners‘ area for first attempts on skis or snowboards. The activities on offer are varied and all equipment – from head to toe – can be rented on site. As the highest mountain station in Europe at 3,821m, the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise can be reached in just 4 minutes.

WINTERSTEIGER was tasked with equipping the highest ski rental store in the Alps, on Testa Grigia, with the Easystore rental system and 96 ski storage lockers. Furthermore, an additional 614 ski lockers will be installed along the Alpine Crossing link between Zermatt and the Italian border in the coming weeks. This proved to be yet another unforgettable experience for our employees, who carried out the planning and installation work at dizzying heights.
