“Ceramic Disc Finish technology is the state of the art.”

WINTERSTEIGER has been the exclusive machine supplier to the ÖSV since 1998. Around 30 staff in the service department work on edges and structures to ensure the success of the Austrian ski team. In the Nordic events, the Race NC racing stone grinding machine is used for the biathlon, Nordic Combination, and ski jumping.

The automatic Mercury L sdp is delivering best times in Alpine events. All the equipment for the youth and European Cup squads was ground using Mercury machines. As of this year, they are also being used for the entire World Cup squad.

“Longstanding partnership improves structure quality.”

The German Ski Association (DSV) owns 3 Race NC racing stone grinding machines, two of which are located at its main site in Oberhof with another one in Bad Reichenhall. The Race NC enabled the DSV to bring about significant improvements in the quality of the base structure. The extremely positive outcome: Around 95 % of the structures used in the Nordic Combined, cross-country, biathlon, and ski jump competitions in the World Cup were manufactured in the DSV Technology Center.

Enrico Heisig, director of the Oberhof Technology Center: “WINTERSTEIGER is a longstanding technology partner that has proved to be reliable and innovative. The Race NC grinding machine has enabled us to steadily improve structure quality. The engineers have confidence in the machines and this rubs off on the athletes. They know that they will have the best possible base structure for their next event.”

“Ceramic Disc Finish is a key factor behind our racing success.”

The racing service department of Atomic has put its faith in WINTERSTEIGER machines for many years.Ceramic Disc Finish edge grinding technology made its first appearance on a Trim 90 way back in 1997. Nowadays, the Race NC delivers the ideal base structure and the Trimjet Racing provides the perfect edge tuning.

Christian Höflehner, director of racing at Alpin: “Our racing team had only good things to say following some testing on snow: Ceramic Disc Finish technology delivers the highest levels of bevel angle accuracy and precision on the lateral edge and base edge. It is a key factor behind our racing success. We also welcome the ease of use of the machines, particularly the structure preview shown on the display. WINTERSTEIGER has been a partner of ours for many years: A high level of expertise, super after-sales service, and a rapid response are what make WINTERSTEIGER different.”

“Innovative feed system produces best results.”

Head was already using the Race NC racing stone grinding machine for the base and the Trimjet Racing for the edge. These were joined by the automatic Mercury L sdp in 2017. The continually increasing grinding volume lay behind the decision to introduce automation, while the good experiences with the manual machines paved the way for the Mercury.

As an extension of the partnership with Head Europe, WINTERSTEIGER has formed a North American partnership with Head USA. The collaboration resulted in a new demo center and showroom at the Head USA headquarters in Boulder, Colorado.

“We count on WINTERSTEIGER in our Austrian race department and wanted to replicate that quality here in Boulder,” notes Jon Rucker, president of Head/Tyrolia, USA. "The Jupiter we now use is a fantastic machine. Yes, it has increased our efficiency, but more importantly for our purposes, it consistently produces top-notch tunes. Our focus is less on quantity and more on quality, which the Jupiter has delivered perfectly."

In addition to the Jupiter, the Head US service facility is equipped with WINTERSTEIGER Easystore racking, a Wax Future, Speedbrush, and Safetronic binding tester – all of which are crucial tools for anyone looking to achieve ski service consistency, ease, and success.

“I’m looking forward to working with WINTERSTEIGER and to many exciting years of collaborative development.”

Eight-time overall World Cup winner Marcel Hirscher and his brand VAN DEER rely on the WINTERSTEIGER Jupiter automated ski service machine, which was installed in May 2022 at their Annaberg site in Austria. The innovative V-Edge technology grinds side and base edges along the ski length in the front and rear areas with variable angles. When developing the V-Edge, WINTERSTEIGER combined two elements: optimum edge grip and easy control of the ski.

Marcel Hirscher: “WINTERSTEIGER is the perfect tuning partner for VAN DEER. We share the same values and aspirations.”

Fischer Sports

“A WINTERSTEIGER tool and Fischer expertise provide the ideal basis for top-quality machines.”

The longstanding collaboration between Fischer and WINTERSTEIGER forms the basis for ski tuning to World Cup standards: WINTERSTEIGER provides the tool and Fischer the expertise. The result is genuine innovation. The racing service department of Fischer Sports uses 4 Race NC and a Trimjet Racing for edge tuning.

August Burgstaller, head of racing service at Alpin: “The Race NC allows us to precisely reproduce a base structure that’s proved itself in competitions. This gives the athletes confidence and has brought us a great deal of success, especially in the Nordic events. We estimate the precise edge angle using the Trimjet Racing. The disc technology provides ultra-precise edge quality.”

Stöckli

Machines:

  • Race NC
  • Trim NC Dual
  • Trimjet Racing

“Edge precision down to a tenth of a millimeter.”

Each year, Stöckli uses the Trim NC and Race NC to prepare around 1,600 pairs of skis for its racing teams (World Cup to C squad). The Trimjet Racing is also used for edge tuning for the juniors for capacity reasons. Urs Kälin, former professional skier and WINTERSTEIGER area sales manager, was the inspiration for the "WINTERSTEIGER-Stöckli success story".

Bernhard Matti, head of racing: “The edges are prepared using the Trim NC, with the disc technology employed to grind both the base edge and the side edge angles precisely to a tenth of a millimeter. No other grinding technology guarantees such precise edge geometry.”

Völkl

Machines:

  • Discovery ssdp
  • Omega RS150
  • Trimjet Racing (4x)
  • Waxfuture
  • Microjet
  • Micro 1

“Discovery delivers an edge quality that is at least on a par with manual machines.”

A Discovery with 4 modules replaced the existing machinery in 2017. The outstanding edge quality produced by the Trimjet impressed the racing department, so Völkl decided to use WINTERSTEIGER automated machines. The automated ski service machine is ideal for every application: Racing skis of every type and the test contingent. Many pairs of skis were ground during an intensive session at WINTERSTEIGER headquarters in Ried, after which the machine and service modules were configured to Völkl’s exact requirements.

Michael Mangold, head of racing: “The high degree of professionalism of WINTERSTEIGER was in evidence during the comprehensive testing session at their head office and in the very thorough consultancy services they provided. The consistent edge quality that we are accustomed to with the Trimjet is still there with the automatic Discovery. We are hugely impressed by the outstanding quality provided by our new automated ski service machine.

One distinct advantage of the Discovery is its suction-less grinding. Each ski goes through the machine without any problems, regardless of its surface. In our case the UVO vibration damper on the tip of the ski.”

Blizzard

“WINTERSTEIGER technology has brought us some stunning successes.”

Blizzard has been a partner of WINTERSTEIGER for many years. The successful racing service team uses theSigma RS racing stone grinding machine and the Trimjet Racing automatic edge-grinding machine.

Bernhard Knauß: “We only work with the most reliable partners in racing, which is why we’ve been teamed up with WINTERSTEIGER for so many years. It is a coming together of top performance and top service! The Trimjet Racing combined with disc technology enables us to grind absolutely precise edges. It guarantees us the best possible result and has brought us some stunning successes: World Cup wins, Olympic victories, crystal balls, and many other medals.

We’re also extremely appreciative of the quality and speed of the service that we receive from WINTERSTEIGER. Something that is particularly important during a World Cup season, as we can’t afford any downtime if we want to remain competitive.”

U.S. Ski Team Cross Country Program Director, Chris Grover points out, “Stone grinding on the World Cup level is becoming increasingly more important. With global warming, cross country teams are seeing warmer and warmer snow conditions, especially in late February and early March for State and National championships. For this reason alone, it is important for every serious racing team to have their own endemic grinding system in place. Therefore, the WINTERSETIGER Race NC is the first step in a development program that is intended to bear fruit by the 2026 Olympics in Italy.”
