Why regular ski servicing is so important for you

Every day of skiing puts you and your equipment to the test. Rounded or nicked up edges, irregularly worn bases, rust or corrosion on the edges, small scratches in the base — all of these things affect your skiing performance. With regular ski servicing from your trusted sports retailer, you can get the most out of your equipment – and yourself

What you achieve through regular servicing

  • Precise edge grip – for maximum control with every turn
  • Personalized V-Edge edge grinding (when tuned with a WINTERSTEIGER Jupiter) – tailored to your level (comfort, sport, race)
  • Optimal gliding properties – for speed when you need it and less effort
  • Safety (edge hold) – safer turn initiation and more grip on the edge
  • Longer ski life – Spot and fix damage early on, worn skis and snowboards degrade exponentially quicker when left untreated
  • Safety (binding release) – binding release checks guarantee your ski releases optimally in the event of a fall
  • More fun on the slopes – because well-maintained skis perform better

The first step is analysis

Before the season starts, you should inspect your skis or snowboards thoroughly. Hiding in plain site, your bases could be high or low. Without a true bar, this is hard to determine. Your best bet is to take it to a pro to determine. Additionally, blunt or rounded edges, corrosion, lack of structure, fuzzy bases, or fine cracks in the base often only become apparent upon closer inspection. Use the fingernail test. If the edge no longer grips, edging is necesary. After your check, it's off to your sports retailer for professional service.

At the begining and end of each season, and after every 3 – 4 days on snow,, you should carefully check your equipment. Afterwards, we recommend having your skis serviced by your trusted sports retailer. They will also check your bindings and prepare your equipment perfectly..

To prolong your skiing enjoyment, you can use the Jomax edge file (available from sports retailers) a maximum of 2–3 times. After that, it's time for another professional ski service – for safe and unadulterated skiing pleasure.
