The perfect grind brings people together
WINTERSTEIGER Sports and the German Ski Association extend their partnership until 2030
Ried im Innkreis. When hundredths of a second make the difference in the Ski World Cup, the work begins long before the start. Base structures must be matched to the snow and temperature, edges prepared with absolute precision and every detail tailored to the course. Technology from Ried im Innkreis plays an important role in this process: WINTERSTEIGER Sports machines are an integral part of the DSV technology centres and support the service teams in preparing the race skis.
The partnership between WINTERSTEIGER Sports and the German Ski Association has grown over many years. It will now continue until April 2030. In doing so, both partners are committing to a collaboration that extends far beyond the provision of machines. Regular workshops, practical tests and open dialogue between the DSV racing experts and the WINTERSTEIGER team form the foundation.
Racing expertise meets technology from Ried
Elite sport shows exactly what technology has to deliver in day-to-day use. The DSV service teams work under intense time pressure, in changing conditions and with the aim of creating the best possible setup for every athlete. With the revised waxing regulations, the base structure has become an even greater focus. Their feedback is therefore particularly valuable: it reveals which details matter in practice and where processes can be made even more precise, reliable or efficient.
This knowledge feeds directly into the work of WINTERSTEIGER Sports. Machines, tools and processes are not assessed solely at a desk, but where they have to prove themselves: in the workshop, in training and during races. This creates real added value for both sides. The DSV works with technology that is consistently geared towards the demands of professional ski servicing, while WINTERSTEIGER Sports receives direct feedback from experienced users.
Racing expertise as the key to success
Emanuel Mayringer, Racing Director at WINTERSTEIGER Sports, also sees the close collaboration as an important factor in the further development of the technologies:
“When technology, experience and passion come together, partnerships with genuine added value emerge. Continuous dialogue with the DSV experts and direct feedback from day-to-day racing help us to continually develop our solutions. The collaboration surrounding Matrix NC and Jupiter in particular demonstrates just how valuable practical expertise at the highest level of sport can be. It is precisely this dialogue that makes the partnership so successful for both sides.”

A strong sign of trust
Christian Thaler, Managing Director of WINTERSTEIGER Sports GmbH, sees the extension as a clear commitment to working together:
“For us, the contract extension is a strong sign of trust. What connects us with the DSV is not only our commitment to the highest precision, but above all a very open and hands-on collaboration. The feedback from the service teams gives us direct insight into what matters under racing conditions. This exchange is exactly what makes the partnership so valuable and enables us to incorporate these insights consistently into the quality of our developments. We are delighted to continue on this path together until 2030.”

Every detail matters
Karlheinz “Charly” Waibel, DSV National Coach for Science & Technology, also emphasises the importance of the long-standing relationship:
“Fast skis are the result of experience, precision and many perfectly coordinated details. WINTERSTEIGER grinding machines are important components of our technology centres. They allow us to tailor structures very precisely to the respective snow and racing conditions. We particularly value the direct line of communication with the WINTERSTEIGER Racing Team. Our experience from day-to-day use is taken seriously and developed further together. The fact that this established partnership will continue until 2030 is a very positive signal for our entire team.”

A partnership looking to the future
With the new contract term, WINTERSTEIGER Sports and the DSV are laying the foundations for another four years of intensive collaboration. Regular dialogue will continue, and experience from racing will remain an integral part of their joint work. The objective remains clear: to provide the service teams with the best possible conditions so that the athletes can start with optimally prepared equipment.
For WINTERSTEIGER Sports, the partnership is also a strong statement from the region: expertise and technology from Ried im Innkreis are being used wherever hundredths of a second are at stake on international racecourses.
