When Austria's hardwood specialist wanted to automate the repair of oversize furniture panels, there was no standard system that could do it. So we developed one.

Austria's hardwood specialist employs 150 people at five sites in Austria and Hungary. It cuts 60,000 solid cubic meters of European hardwood every year to produce 330,000 m² glued laminated panels from the main factory in Wieselburg. Germany, Switzerland, and Asia account for 75 % of the company's products. They also process the materials others don't want to: oak, Hungarian black walnut, acacia, beech, alder, ash, and maple.

The panels that did not fit into any machine

Wolfgang Sunk, CEO of Wibeba-Holz, had a problem that no product catalog could solve.

The pain points

Furniture panels up to 3 meters long, 1.25 meters wide, and 150 kg in weight – no standard scanner processed widths of 1,300 mm.

Repairing both sides required these giant panels to be turned for each side, which could not be done ergonomically hand.

In every shift 2–3 employees worked exclusively on manual filling, leading to inconsistent results and an estimated overuse of filling material by at least 50 %.

The solution: TRC Panel 2000

WINTERSTEIGER developed scanner technology for 1,300 mm panel widths – a capability that did not exist prior to this partnership. The result was the TRC Panel 2000 with integrated vacuum turning unit for automatic repair of both sides.

Summary

The TRC Panel 2000 was not in any catalog. It exists because a customer had a problem that no standard product could handle – and a partner that had the engineering expertise to take action. Every panel is packed with potential. Wibeba did not adapt its product to a machine, but instead found a partner that adapted the machine to the product.
