It's all connected: the first machines for Fischer Ski

In 1936, Fischer Ski began producing skis and, in 1964, built a new ski factory on the outskirts of Ried im Innkreis. By 1970, Fischer Ski had become the world’s largest ski manufacturer. Parallel to this successful development, other Ried-based companies also grew: Scheuch, with machines for suction; WINTERSTEIGER, with ski service machines; and Fill, with ski production machines.

Starting in 1963, WINTERSTEIGER also began producing machinery for ski manufacturing, such as presses and planers:

  • Wedge planer: Sales conducted by the Mähler company in Munich
  • RTB rotary press: only a few units produced; operated pneumatically
  • Glue star: a sun-shaped press; each arm advanced at one-minute intervals

In 1963, Wintersteiger had 25 employees and revenue of 284,000 euros (at the time: 3.9 million schillings)

A change in direction led to the creation of the Sports division.

In 1978, WINTERSTEIGER decided to switch to ski service machines and laid the foundation for the Sports division. WINTERSTEIGER remains the world market leader in this sector to this day.
