1953–1959

The history of WINTERSTEIGER began in 1953 in an old blacksmith’s shop. The business quickly evolved from a repair shop into a manufacturer of its own machines. The first laboratory thresher for plant breeding and the decision to relocate to Ried were important milestones for the young company.

1960–1969

The 1960s represent technological pioneering and growth. With the first plot combine for plant breeding, WINTERSTEIGER sets new standards, with first export orders soon following. At the same time, machines for the ski industry are developed, and the company moves into its current headquarters in Ried.

1970–1979

The 1970s were marked by new technologies and a wealth of ingenuity. WINTERSTEIGER developed the first thin-cutting frame saw, expanded its plant breeding portfolio and reorganized its production processes as part of a major contract. The company’s entry into the ski service sector opened up another promising new field.

1980–1989

In the 1980s, WINTERSTEIGER evolved into an internationally successful specialist. The first sites outside Austria were established, and innovations led to a breakthrough in plant breeding and ski service. By the end of the decade, both divisions were among the world market leaders in their respective industries.

1990–1999

The 1990s brought new technologies, new markets, and a new business segment. Woodtech (now known as Solutions) emerged from the Engineering division, automation advanced in ski service, and strategic acquisitions expanded the portfolio along the value chain. As a result, WINTERSTEIGER broadened its international reach.

2000–2009

The 2000s saw a strong focus on internationalization. Acquisitions and new locations strengthened the company’s global presence, while innovative technologies drove development in the individual business segments. At the same time, WINTERSTEIGER also evolved into a strong visual brand with a new corporate identity.

2010–2019

In the 2010s, the WINTERSTEIGER Group became significantly more diverse. Several strategic investments brought additional technologies, products, and expertise to the company. Existing business areas were strengthened, while new opportunities for growth were created.

2020–2027

Digitalization will become a key driver in the 2020s: WINTERSTEIGER is investing in digital services, connected solutions, and new business models. At the same time, the company is setting the course for the future through systematically expanding its product portfolio.
