Girls' Day at WINTERSTEIGER
Apprentices Mentor Schoolgirls
Five students from MS Waldzell, MS Eberschwang, and TNMS 2 Ried took advantage of Girls’ Day to get a taste of the industrial world at the WINTERSTEIGER training workshop. In the modern “Smart Factory Lab,” the girls first received an overview of the company and its many apprenticeship opportunities.
Then it was time to get hands-on: WINTERSTEIGER apprentices had prepared various tasks and stations—such as electrical work and soldering, as well as introductory sessions on the robot, lathe, and milling machine—and served as mentors to the girls. After a productive morning, the program included a group lunch where the students could discuss their future plans.
“For a mechanical engineering company, the proportion of women here is quite high, and Girls’ Day can be the first step toward a successful career at an international company. Girls are very welcome—all doors are open,” explains WINTERSTEIGER apprentice trainer Christian Scharnböck, who organized Girls’ Day for the 14th time this year.
WINTERSTEIGER trains around 60 apprentices at its Ried site. In addition to technical content, the apprenticeship program includes seminars on personal development. The option to begin preparing for the Matura exam starting in the second year of training rounds out the training program.
