Testa Grigia – the highest ski rental shop in the Alps

When visions become reality: After years of pioneering work, the year-round, direct connection between Zermatt and the Italian winter sports resort of Cervinia has opened. Since July 1, 2023, the Matterhorn Glacier Ride II has made it possible to cross the Alps at the highest elevation via cable car.

Surrounded by the breathtaking mountain panorama of the Alps, the new route offers thrills, luxury, and the utmost comfort. A truly exceptional experience—soaring over the fascinating mountain landscapes of Italy and Switzerland with a view of the unmistakable Matterhorn. Alpine Crossing offers a new dimension of cable car travel: the highest Alpine crossing by cable car between two countries.

At 3,458 m, the two Swiss companies Zermatters and Slalom Sport operate the SnowXperience Plateau Rosa, featuring snow tubing for thrill-seeking guests and a beginner’s area for first attempts at skiing or snowboarding. The offerings are diverse, and all equipment—from head to toe—can be rented on-site. Europe’s highest mountain station, the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise at 3,821 m, can be reached in just a 4-minute ride.

WINTERSTEIGER had the privilege of equipping the highest ski rental shop in the Alps, located on Testa Grigia, with the Easystore rental system and 96 ski storage spaces. In addition, another 614 ski storage spaces will be installed in the coming weeks along the Alpine Crossing route from Zermatt to the Italian border. Once again, this was an unforgettable experience for our employees, who had the opportunity to carry out the planning and installation at such dizzying heights.
