The Four Aspects of a News Story

6/10/2025

Who is familiar with the “4-Ears” model? It describes how every message has four levels: the factual content, a self-revelation, the relational level, and an appeal. Our second-year apprentices have recently been studying this well-known communication model—along with many others—in great depth as part of an apprentice workshop on “Communication & Presentation.”

Over the two days of the workshop, topics included nonverbal and paraverbal communication, flipchart design, storytelling, feedback methods, and how best to deal with stage fright. The highlight: spontaneous interviews with passersby in downtown Ried on the topic of “WINTERSTEIGER.” Although it took some courage for the apprentices, it was all the more fun for it. The results of the workshop will be presented to the apprentice trainers and master craftsmen in July.
