WINTERSTEIGER Opens State-of-the-Art Small Parts Warehouse in Ried

8/4/2025

The 5-million-euro investment exemplifies the combination of technological innovation and sustainable construction—and represents a clear commitment to the Ried site

WINTERSTEIGER officially opened its new automated small-parts warehouse on Friday with a ceremony attended by employees and select guests. The 5-million-euro project marks another milestone in the sustainable development of the internationally active machinery and plant engineering group’s location.

“We’re investing not only in technology, but also in the future viability of our site,” explained CEO Florestan von Boxberg. “With the new small-parts warehouse, we can streamline our processes and thus lay the foundation for further growth. At the same time, we’re sending a strong signal in favor of sustainable construction in the industrial sector.”

The new warehouse was not built on a greenfield site, but rather above an existing production hall to save space. With 800 m² of floor space, it can accommodate up to 50,000 different parts. The vertical design exemplifies WINTERSTEIGER’s intelligent and resource-efficient planning: on the one hand, it avoids additional land sealing, and on the other, it increases efficiency in the company’s internal logistics. “Thanks to its proximity to production, we can deliver the required materials to the assembly line quickly and efficiently. This has positive effects on inventory turnover and lead times,” explained CTO Thomas Fürkötter. The new warehouse will go into operation in August.

Mayor Bernhard Zwielehner was also impressed by the project: “WINTERSTEIGER is proving that economic success and environmental responsibility are not mutually exclusive. The city of Ried is proud to be home to such an innovative company.” In recent years, WINTERSTEIGER has invested over 20 million euros at its Ried site—ranging from smart IT solutions to photovoltaic and high-tech manufacturing facilities, and now its fourth new building on its downtown properties.

Following the opening, the Management Board invited all guests to the “Halftime Party,” WINTERSTEIGER’s traditional summer festival. The event also marked a milestone anniversary: 60 years at the Ried site. After the company was founded in Obernberg in 1953, it moved to Froschaugasse in 1958 and finally, in 1965, to the newly constructed facility on what is now Wintersteigerstraße.
