TRC 1500 times two: Successful system expansion at Scheucher Holzindustrie

Scheucher Holzindustrie is one of the leading parquet flooring manufacturers and the production plant in Mettersdorf, Styria, is among the most modern in Europe. VAP-WINTERSTEIGER was able to support the successful company with machines for wood surface repair and automation solutions as part of this development. In spring 2021, Scheucher once again invested in VAP-WINTERSTEIGER technology with an additional TRC 1500.
Two years ago, Scheucher Holzindustrie ordered a system combination from VAP-WINTERSTEIGER that was made up of a fully automatic TRC 1500 for wood surface repair and a TRC Manufactory for individual plank design. The two systems could be operated both independently and together. Another TRC 1500 was introduced in April 2021 for capacity reasons. “We were very pleased with the first system. The TRC 1500 is flexible. We aren't bound to certain formats or lengths but we had reached our work load limit,” explains Karl Kaufmann, Operations Manager at Scheucher.
Scheucher Holzindustrie uses the TRC 1500 to restore raw planks and top layers – and all in two colors. If Scheucher wants to expand its product range in future, additional colors can be added.

Two in one.
The TRC 1500 was extended in April 2021 and its "twin" connected to the existing system: the same basic machine but with upgraded transport. The connected TRC Manufactory first had to be moved and then the new TRC 1500 took its place. Walter Resch, Designer at VAP-WINTERSTEIGER, says of the exciting project: “For the fitters, the conversion was like open-heart surgery. Part of the system remained in place. The TRC Manufactory was disconnected and the TRC 1500 attached. Everything went as planned and the system parts now work perfectly as an overall system. We have achieved our aim of fitting everything within just ten days and limiting downtime to this period too.”
Scheucher is delighted to confirm that the conversion was a success: “It's always a good fit when we collaborate with VAP-WINTERSTEIGER, which is why we decided to work with the company again,” says Operations Manager Karl Kaufmann.

In order to handle the required number of planks, the areas for feeding and unloading were expanded: transport of the planks is served by a mirrored configuration and feeding of the filling material and operation were relocated centrally to the middle of both machines. This now makes it possible to insert double layers into the TRC 1500 too, which speeds things up significantly.
The system expansion was designed for the same product range that was processed using the first TRC 1500. Either one product or even two different products can now be processed on the overall system: one product per TRC 1500.

The scanner measures the defects and the software calculates the required fill amount and then transfers the data to one of two filling units. An injection unit repairs larger defects. Smaller ones such as cracks and knotholes are filled in using an application unit and the filling material is then rolled in. Precise calculation of the fill amount ensures that no filling material is wasted. The thermoplastic filling material hardens very quickly and the planks can be further processed immediately.
TRC 1500 also makes the automated repair of top layers possible for the first time.
