The 5 million euro investment is a prime example of how technological innovation can be combined with sustainable construction – and represents a clear commitment to the Ried site
Ried im Innkreis, July 2025. WINTERSTEIGER opened its new automated small parts warehouse on Friday during a ceremony attended by employees and invited guests. The 5 million euro project marks another milestone in the international machine and plant engineering group's efforts to develop sustainable sites.
“We are not only investing in technology, but also in the future viability of our site,” said the company's CEO Florestan von Boxberg. “Our new small parts warehouse will help us make our processes more efficient and thus create the basis for further growth. At the same time, we are sending out a strong signal for sustainable construction in the industrial sector.”

The new warehouse was not built on a greenfield site, but above an existing production hall to save space. It offers 800 m² of space for up to 50,000 different parts. The vertical construction method is a perfect example of how WINTERSTEIGER pursues an intelligent planning approach that saves resources. Not only does it allow the company to avoid concreting over additional land, but it increases the efficiency of internal logistics. “Because we're situated so close to the production lines, we can work quickly and deliver the required material to the assembly line in the most efficient way possible. This has a positive effect on the in-process inventory and throughput time,” noted CTO Thomas Fürkötter. The new warehouse is set to go into operation in August.
Mayor Bernhard Zwielehner was also impressed by the project: “WINTERSTEIGER is proving that economic success and ecological responsibility can go hand in hand. The town of Ried is proud to be home to such an innovative company.” In recent years, WINTERSTEIGER has invested over 20 million euros in the Ried site, from intelligent IT solutions, photovoltaic, and high-tech production facilities to what is now the fourth new building on its premises in the town.
After the opening of the new building, the Management Board invited all guests to the 'half-time party', WINTERSTEIGER's traditional summer celebration. During the party, the company also celebrated a milestone anniversary—the 60th anniversary of the Ried plant. After the company was founded in Obernberg in 1953, it moved to Froschaugasse in 1958 and finally to the newly built premises in what is now Wintersteigerstrasse in 1965.
